The Friends of the National Museum of Australia Public Fund (Friends Foundation) is a charitable trust established by the Friends to support the collections and programs of the National Museum of Australia.

Through the Friends Foundation you can help the National Museum of Australia take its place among the world's great social history museums.

The Acquisition Fund supports the acquisition of key objects for the Museum's National Historical Collection, an irreplaceable and priceless collection of historically and culturally significant objects for all Australians.

In 2008 the Friends of the National Museum established the inaugural Friends Foundation Fellowship. The aim of the annual Fellowship is to support professional staff to undertake significant research projects. Each year the Friends awards the successful Fellow up to $5,000 toward a research project.
